TWO KILLED IN TRACTOR-TRAILER ACCIDENT ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND CO.

A tractor-trailer accident in eastern Cumberland County this morning resulted in two killed. The Tennessee Highway Patrol states a 2019 Kenworth driven by 31-year-old Mutasim Abdelrahman of Garden City, Kansas was traveling eastbound on I-40 at the 335 mile marker when he left the road, went across the median and crossed the westbound lanes. The tractor-trailer then went through the guard rail, went down an embankment and came to rest after striking several trees. Abdelrahman and a passenger, 39-year-old Robert William Newton of Branson, Missouri, died in the crash. The wreck resulted in traffic being backed up for as far as 14 miles at one point.
