TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR TRAILER THEFT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On October 10, 2025, at approximately 6:45 a.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft incident at Shorty Barnes Road in Crossville. A resident reported that two male suspects, identified as Christian Gage Houston and Kenneth Andrew Toebbe, stole a 16-foot bumper pull trailer valued at $700 from their property.
The victim observed the suspects hooking the trailer to a gold/pewter SUV and confronted them, prompting the suspects to flee with the trailer. The victim pursued them in their vehicle while contacting 911, providing real-time location updates.
The suspects drove to the intersection of Shorty Barnes Road and Peavine Road, where they made a U-turn into the Budget Blinds parking lot and unhooked the trailer. The victim blocked their vehicle to prevent escape until deputies arrived. Deputy Brent Griffin arrested Houston and Toebbe on-view for theft of property.
A search of the suspects’ vehicle uncovered multiple suspected stolen items, including weed eaters, chainsaws, tools, power drills, three BB/pellet pistols, and two active walkie-talkies believed to be used for communication during the theft. The vehicle’s registration tag was found removed and hidden in the trunk, likely to avoid identification.
Photographs and serial numbers of the items were documented, and the trailer was returned to the victim. Houston was charged with theft of property with an $8,000 bond, and Toebbe was charged with theft up to $1,000 with a $4,000 bond, both scheduled for court on November 3, 2025.
