TWRA CHARGES 20 HUNTERS WITH BEAR BAITING VIOLATIONS IN BLOUNT COUNTY

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has charged 20 hunters with violations related to the illegal baiting and hunting of black bears in Blount County. Two groups of hunters were confronted by agents earlier this week after hounds were turned loose at two sites which had been baited with candy and bread in the area of Chilhowee Mountain off Montvale Rd, a 600 acre land tract on private property. The baiting was used to illegally draw the bears from the management area and surrounding area. The TWRA warns that there is a negative impact on giving the bears human food which encourages the animals to forage away from their native habit and wander into communities seeking out garbage cans, dumpsters and campsites.
