UNAKA HIGH BASKETBALL TEAM FEELS REPERCUSSIONS OVER FOOTBALL GAME FORFEIT
An East Tennessee high school basketball team has been penalized by the TSSAA because the school’s football team has failed to participate in a playoff game. Unaka’s football team turned in their uniforms after last week’s crushing 71-0 loss to Midway. The team was supposed to meet Greenback this coming Friday in a playoff game, but all members of the Unaka team signed a statement turning down the trip. The TSSAA gave the game to Greenback in a forfeiture. They also say that the boy’s basketball team won’t be allowed to take part in the 2016-17 post season tournament. The Board of Education plans to appeal that decision.
