UNATTENDED FIRES POSE SERIOUS RISKS AND VIOLATES STATE LAW
Local and area fire departments have battled numerous blazes related to unattended fires.
Unattended fires pose a serious risk because embers and burning materials can easily escape and spread the fire to nearby properties, grasses, brush, trees, or buildings.
That is why Tennessee law (Tennessee Code 39-14-305) requires you to stay with your fire – regardless of size – until it is completely out.
Failure to do so not only puts your property, community, and neighbors at risk but is also a Class B misdemeanor that can carry fines and/or jail time.
Fire officials ask for the cooperation of the public in this matter.
