UNEMPLOYMENT PHONE SCAM REPORTED IN CROSSVILLE
Law enforcement in Crossville took a scam report yesterday. In this case, an adult female in her 30’s was filing for unemployment on her cell phone on an unknown website. She then received a call by a “Robert Stevens” from a 775 area code (Nevada) claiming to be with the unemployment office telling her to go purchase gift cards to complete the filing. The victim did so in buying a total of $500 in cards and giving the scammer the codes off the back of them. If you file for unemployment electronically, make sure it is done on an official state or federal website.
