UPDATE ON CONDITION OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEPUTY SCOTT ILES

This evening, 1057 News spoke with Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox, who gave an update on the status of Deputy Scott Iles. Iles is the North Cumberland Elementary School Resource Officer who was struck by a vehicle approximately 3:10 this afternoon while directing traffic outside the school along U.S. Highway 127.

Deputy Iles was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment of his injuries. According to Cox, Iles was conscious and talking to the sheriff inside the ambulance on scene before they put him in the chopper.

Cox added Deputy Iles suffered a head injury but did not elaborate on any other possible injuries.

A joint press release issued by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland County Schools revealed Iles was struck from behind by a southbound vehicle on U.S.. Highway 127 North while directing school traffic. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says that after hitting the 2014 Ford Focus’s windshield, Iles was thrown 50 feet ahead of the car into the southbound lane. They have identified the driver of the vehicle as 87-year-old Patrick Henry Hicks of Monterey. Charges are said to be pending.
