VAN BUREN COUNTY COMMISSION IN OPPOSITION OF CLOSING FALL CREEK FALLS INN FOR REBUILD PROJECT

Van Buren County Commissioners have voiced their opposition to plans to demolish the present Fall Creek Falls Inn in order to build a larger facility. The state is calling for the original inn to be torn down and replaced with a new 85-room inn, which would also include a restaurant and conference center. The county says that they will investigate possible legal action to halt the demolition plans. They say that the old inn could stay open, while the new inn could be located across the lake to allow current employees to keep their jobs during the estimated two years of construction. The state’s original plan called for layoffs and severance packages for those employees. Officials with the Tennessee State Employees Association agree with the commission. They say that it’s “irresponsible” of the Haslam Administration to close the state’s most profitable inn and not seek a better solution. The present plan calls for the inn to close on April 2 in order to prepare for the $25 million project.
