VANDALS CAUSE OVER $6,500 IN DAMAGES TO 4TH STREET FENCE
On Wednesday, Officer Matthew Charlock responded to Crossville Housing Authority Maintenance regarding vandalism taking place on 4th Street. Upon arriving, he contacted a representative who said that people had been breaking into the barbed wire and chain link fence around their back parking lot for over a month.
It all started on the 16th of December sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.. The officer was able to spot two cuts on the east side of the fence facing Irwin Avenue, one at the beginning of the fence close to their building, and one further down the fence closer to Rose Street.
The officer was then shown two more cuts in the fence on the West side closest to 4th Street.
The representative said that on the 16th, there were two cuts on the east side closest to Rose Street and another cut on the West side closest to Rose Street at around 7:00 in the morning when everybody comes in. He also told the officer that two of his construction people located the two new cuts in the fence that day (Jan. 22nd) at around 10:00 a.m.
The representative said the last time this happened it looked like the people knew what they were doing since they stayed out of view of the cameras and unplugged any external lights to not be seen. He said that this time, however, the camera caught the individuals but could not see their faces.
According to the representative, nothing is currently missing, just damages to the fence. The maintenance workers leave at around 4:00 p.m. and the construction workers leave at around 5:30 p.m.
The security camera footage shows the subjects inside of the secured fence between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. when nobody is there. The representative believes they are coming in and damaging the fence in the early hours of the morning.
The representative said he had spoken with somebody to get an estimate for the first two cuts in the fence and they estimated the repairs to cost around $3,250. Logically, the representative estimates the cost to repair all four holes in the fence to be around $6,500.
Due to the amount of damage done to the fence, Officer Charlock contacted Detective Jon Tollett and made him aware of the incident.
No charges have been filed and no suspects have been apprehended.
