VILLAGE INN CLOSED AFTER NARCOTICS INVESTIGATION LEADS TO SAFETY CONCERNS

The Village Inn has been permanently closed for safety concerns that were found during an ongoing, long-term narcotics investigation by local authorities.

The Village Inn,  located at the corner of North Main Street and Burnett Street was condemned this morning after multiple life-threatening safety violations were discovered among the 64 units. Crossville Police had requested the City Fire’s assistance after executing a search warrant in an early morning drug raid on one unit. Upon entering the unit there were several safety violations discovered with prompted authorities to check other units. Virtually all units had life-threatening safety violations and occupants were told they had until 8 pm tonight to vacate the premises and only seven days to return to get personal belongings. All units were occupied, some with multiple occupancies. The entire Village Inn will be closed down until all safety violations are corrected.

According to police, overhead concrete walkways showed signs of deterioration. Additionally, handrails were found either broken or loose. Standing water was also observed in the floor of an occupied unit.  Residents were reportedly walking on boards to avoid the water.  Officials decided to cut power to the Village Inn and issued an immediate habitation ban.

Several agencies and housing corporations were called to assist displaced residents.  The investigation remains ongoing.

 

Village Inn, formerly the Capri Motel was once one of the finest motor lodges in Middle Tennessee.
