WAFFLE HOUSE HASSLE
On Tuesday, City Police units were dispatched to the Waffle House about a male subject inside of the business smoking, throwing chairs, and not letting customers leave by laying on their vehicles. While en route, dispatch stated that the subject had tattoos on his face and wearing a white shirt. Detective Tollett was the first to arrive on the scene with Sergeant Keith Sadula arriving to find Detective Tollett speaking with the male subject later identified as Xavier Lamont Pate.
The subject upon looking at Officer Sadula grabbed his belongings on the ground, ran to Detective Tollett’s truck, and attempted to open the passenger side door. Officer Sadula grabbed his left wrist and told him to relax. Detective Tollett gave him a direct order to stand in front of him by the abandoned store however he would not comply with these commands. The subject ran to Officer Sadula’s car and attempted to get into the driver-side door of the patrol vehicle.
Officer Sadula ran to him, and the subject balled his left fist up in an aggressive manner. Sadula was able to push him against the patrol vehicle, underhook his left arm, and sweep his left leg, taking him to the ground. After establishing a full body mount, the subject attempted to grab Officer Sadula’s firearm. However, the officer was able to restrain him.
The subject kept saying that he was high. After being cuffed, the subject was stood up and said that he met a guy at a 7-Eleven who gave him something to smoke and caused him to get high. He said that he just got out of prison and a Morgan County Deputy dropped him off at the bus station. He was placed under arrest and transported to intake for booking. The subject did not request emergency medical services.
