WARREN COUNTY SHERIFF WARNS OF CHILD PREDATORS USING SOCIAL MEDIA

From the Warren County Sheriff’s Office:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As your Sheriff, and as a fellow member of this community, I am reaching out with an urgent and heartfelt reminder about the importance of talking to your children about their use of social media and the hidden dangers that can exist online. I have attached a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office regarding the arrest of an individual who was using Snapchat to lure minors into producing sexually explicit material. (PLEASE CLICK ON THE PROVIDED LINK TO READ THIS IMPORTANT PRESS RELEASE). https://www.justice.gov/…/snapchat-user-charged…
Social media is part of our children’s daily lives — a way to connect, share, and learn. But with that access comes risk. Every day, across the country and in our own communities, sexual predators are using these platforms to target and exploit minors. They pose as peers, gain trust, and often manipulate or coerce young people into dangerous situations, sometimes without parents ever knowing it’s happening.
I strongly urge you to have open, honest, and ongoing conversations with your children about:
• Who they interact with online
• What kind of information they are sharing
• The importance of never meeting someone in person that they’ve only met online
• How to come to you or another trusted adult if something feels wrong
Please take time to monitor their online activity, set clear rules, and keep communication lines open. These conversations might be uncomfortable, but they are absolutely necessary to keep your children safe.
Our office is committed to protecting every child in our community, but we need your partnership. If you see something suspicious or if your child shares something concerning, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
