WAS THAT REALLY A VACUUM CLEANER SALESMAN OUT AT NIGHT?

Thursday night, Cumberland County deputies responded to an address on Cherry Branch Loop for a call about a suspicious man selling vacuum cleaners door to door.

Before arriving at the caller’s home, deputies encountered a man on Cherry Branch Road loading a vacuum cleaner into the rear of his van. The 51-year-old man from Powell, Tennessee, who claimed to be an independent vacuum-cleaner salesman, said he and his team had been working in the area.

Deputies advised the man it was late and he needed to leave, then proceeded to the address to which they’d been summoned.

The resident there said a man named Jacob had come to her home, trying to sell Kirby vacuum cleaners. According to the incident report, he claimed his supervisor had dropped him off down the road and he was going from house to house.

The resident told deputies Jacob, a 41-year-old from Nashville, had asked to use the restroom and, according to the report, “he was in there a very long time and she thought that was very odd.”

The woman also said Jacob had asked about her vehicles, including their make, model and place of purchase, as well as her credit score. She said she believes this could have been part of a scam.
