WEST CUMBERLAND UTILITY DISTRICT SEEKS CROSSVILLE MERGER
The West Cumberland Utility District, saddled with about $3 million in debt and the county’s highest water rates despite recent major upgrades, has asked the City of Crossville for a merger proposal, which dominated the city council’s Tuesday work session.
Staff were instructed to draft the proposal by January, though the city manager questioned the timeline’s feasibility, and Councilman Dr. Mark Fox insisted on seeing financial figures first; county mayor approval would be required for any deal, with a progress update slated for December.
Separately, the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority has countered with an offer to absorb the debt, boost employee wages, and cut water rates by 5 percent.
