White County Commissioners have proposed to settle a lawsuit filed by the county sheriff a little over a year ago. In August 2016, Sheriff Odie Shoupe filed the lawsuit against the county in an attempt to get more funding for his office for employee raises, more officers, jailers, increased training and equipment. It was a close vote with 8 commissioners approving the settlement proposal and 6 voting against. The details of the settlement offer have not been disclosed and it is unknown if Sheriff Shoupe will agree to it.
