WHITE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION

Dennis Kirk Binkley Jr., a 41-year-old White County man, pleaded guilty in Cumberland County Criminal Court to attempting to possess a firearm after a prior felony drug conviction and was sentenced as a multiple offender to five years in prison, to be served at 35% with fines and court costs waived due to his ongoing custody.
The sentence runs concurrently with unrelated cases in Putnam and White counties, and he received 53 days of jail credit. Binkley was arrested on December 28, 2024, during a traffic stop for a non-working taillight on his Volkswagen Jetta at Westward Boulevard and Mayland Road by Deputy Benjamin Brouderdorf; he admitted to having a handgun in the front door panel despite being prohibited from possessing one, and a related charge of driving on a revoked license was dropped.
In the same court docket, numerous other cases were continued to dates in November and December, including charges against individuals like Travis Lee Coleman for drug possession and resisting arrest, Brooke Ann Crabtree for burglary and aggravated kidnapping, and Wesley Stuart Wood for fentanyl and meth possession with a firearm; motions and hearings included Kyle Daniel Nelson receiving a two-year sentence for aggravated assault, while probation violations saw Nevin Lamar Kirkpatrick sentenced to one year at 75% before probation reinstatement and Justin Andrew Wooldrige ordered to serve 45 days with loss of judicial diversion.
