WHITE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AMONG FIRST IN COUNTRY TO USE DIGITAL SIREN SYSTEM

The White County Sheriff’s Office has become the first law enforcement agency in the state—and one of the first in the country—to deploy the “Digital Siren” system, a cutting-edge law enforcement technology developed through the Pursuit Alert network. This innovative system sends real-time alerts directly to drivers’ smartphones via the free Digital Siren mobile app (available for Apple and Android devices) or automatically through popular navigation apps like Google Maps, providing hands-free notifications announced via phone or vehicle speakers. It functions similarly to weather or Amber Alerts but focuses specifically on active, high-risk roadway situations, giving drivers advance warning—often seconds to minutes earlier than traditional sirens or lights—to move aside safely and avoid collisions.

The primary purpose is to enhance safety during police pursuits, Code 3 emergency responses (such as fire or EMS), and other critical incidents by increasing driver awareness and reducing the risk of accidents involving innocent motorists. In addition to these core alerts, the system notifies users about reckless or DUI drivers, traffic hazards, missing children or elderly individuals, flooded roadways, severe weather, road closures, and more. The deployment was made possible through a combination of community donations and Sheriff’s Office funds, with special thanks extended to donors like Tyler Brandes, the White County Rotary Club, and Carla Sabatke with 931 K9 for supporting the equipping of patrol vehicles and K-9 units with this life-saving technology.

Sheriff Steve Page emphasized that this initiative, resulting from strong community partnerships and agency commitment, directly makes both deputies and citizens safer. Residents are encouraged to download the Digital Siren app to stay informed, and more details are available through the White County Sheriff’s Office website or PursuitAlert.com, with a live demonstration planned for a future Rotary Club meeting.
