WOMAN CAUSES CAR CRASH AFTER INGESTING NARCOTICS

Last Thursday, just before 7 PM, Crossville City officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident. When officers were speaking with one of the drivers involved, she stated that the other driver, identified as 30-year-old Rachel Corum hit her vehicle and seemed to be asleep or passed out because she noticed her eyes were closed at the time of the accident. The woman also stated that she continually used her horn but got no response from Ms. Corum.

When officers spoke with Ms. Corum, it was reported that she seemed very lethargic and slow in reacting to questions. When officers asked her for a license and registration, they witnessed Ms. Corum shoving something into the center console and digging in the front of her pants. Officers told her to exit the vehicle and when asked what she was trying to hide, she replied, “I have a rig (needle/syringe), and didn’t want y’all to get poked by it”.

When asked if she had taken anything, she stated about 20 minutes prior to the accident she took some narcotics, possibly Heroin, but wasn’t sure what it was.

Rachel Corum was charged with Driving Under the Influence and a warrant was granted for a blood draw.

Syringes were located in the vehicle and taken to be destroyed.
