Great Smoky Mountain National Park rangers responded to a report of a single-car accident on Newfound Gap Road Saturday morning. A 2014 GMC pickup truck, driven by 63-year-old Lawrence Gallagher, 63, of La Follette, TN, drove off the road and landed 40 feet below in a river. The accident occurred at the bridge near the Chimneys Picnic Area entrance along Newfound Gap Road just 6 miles south of Gatlinburg. 62-year-old Wanda Strunk of Oneida, TN died as result of her injuries.
