WOMAN RECOGNIZES ATTEMPTED SCAM, DOES THE SMART THING
Cumberland County deputies spoke with a Monterey woman Tuesday with regard to a scam. She said she was selling a generator online for $400 and received a check from someone in the amount of $2,950.
The alert woman took the check to the Monterey Police Department. Officers accompanied her to the bank, where staff confirmed the check – which was from a company in New York and purported to be from someone in Florida – was bogus.
Cumberland County authorities advised her to keep the check for her records.
