WORK CONTINUES ON HISTORIC SOUTHERN RAILWAY CABOOSE IN ROCKWOOD
BBBTV12 – Work continues on the historic Southern Railway caboose in downtown Rockwood, with recent progress including the installation of signal poles in front of the caboose. Thanks to the assistance of the Rockwood Model Railroad Club members, efforts are moving forward to restore and enhance the site.
The City of Rockwood is collaborating with the club to make the crossing signals operational again and to ensure the inside of the caboose is clean and ready for potential tours in the future. Jeff Loveday is leading work on the signals, while the city plans to build a handicap-accessible platform around the caboose, featuring a covered seating area on the railroad side. This will provide a spot for visitors to relax and watch passing trains. While an exact completion date is uncertain, the project is expected to be finished before summer.
Rockwood Model Railroad Club members Jeff Loveday and AJ Lopez recently inspected the caboose’s interior as part of ongoing efforts. The caboose is located in Homecoming Park in downtown Rockwood.
While restoration continues, visitors are encouraged to stop by the Rockwood Model Railroad exhibit, located across the street on Front Street. The exhibit is open on Saturdays from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
