YATES ARRESTED IN ROANE COUNTY FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION

BLEDSOE COUNTY MANHUNT ENDS WITH RESIDENT CAPTURING SUSPECT

Shortly before 7 Tuesday night, Roane County deputies were dispatched to Blue Springs Cemetery on Buckner Road in Philadelphia for a call about a man in jeans and a blue-and-white striped shirt, parked at the end of the road.

Deputies made contact with 41-year-old Tobey Truman Yates, in the described clothing, passed out behind the wheel of a sedan. All the windows were down and the deputy saw a lighter torch and a cut-down soda can bottom with residue in plain sight. He went around to driver side to awaken the sleeping suspect. Yates jumped, apparently shocked to see the officers, who asked if he was under the influence.

Yates replied that he was using ice.

When deputies asked Yates to step out of the vehicle, they noticed his right arm was tied off with a shoe string, as if intending to inject narcotics.

The vehicle registration provided was not on file. An NCIC check revealed the vehicle to have been stolen from McMinn County. Yates claimed he had borrowed the vehicle from someone named David. He couldn’t provide any other identifying information.

Yates was charged with public intoxication, with a hold placed for the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.
