105.7 NEWS EXCLUSIVE – ASSAULT IN CROSSVILLE TURNS INTO STORY OF FORGIVENESS AND LOVE

A man in his 60’s was reportedly assaulted early Monday morning by four individuals near the intersection of Main Street and Lantana Road.

What happened afterwards was inspirational to say the least.

105.7 News spoke with Scott Woody Gregory on the phone late this morning. Here is his account of what happened that morning:

“I was out for a run between 5 and 6 a.m. Monday morning. I was on the side of the road when I stopped to let a vehicle go by at an intersection that had 3 Caucasian males and one African-American male ranging in ages from around 18 to mid-20’s inside. They yelled at me to get off the road as they went by. Suddenly they turned around and came back to me. They got out and approached me yelling profanity then attacked me,” said Gregory.

After the assault stopped, Gregory did something many of us would not have.

“I told them I forgave them for their actions,” said Gregory. “The last thing I wanted was more violence.”

When asked what his message would be to everyone based on this incident, Mr. Gregory did not waste any time in a reply.

“Don’t become what they were that morning. Show love as I did. God will take care of the situation. Just let God handle it.”

The last sentence Mr. Gregory told me was truly inspirational.

“If I see them again, I would tell all four I love them. There is so much violence going on in the nation now. We need to love each other, not hate and resort to violence. This is my message to everyone out there.”

By the way, Gregory escaped injury in the attack. No police report was filed of the incident.
