2.7 EARTHQUAKE FELT IN BLOUNT COUNTY
The U.S. Geological Survey confirms a magnitude 2.7 earthquake hit near Louisville, Tennessee, Monday night. The quake, originally reported as a 2.9, happened at 10:42 PM, according to the USGS, striking about 4 kilometers west of Louisville. Some say that they felt the quake as far away as Farragut and that it sounded like something exploded. A 2.7 quake is classified as “minor” on the Richter scale and usually causes no damage to buildings, but can be felt by people. There are over one million earthquakes between 2.0 and 2.9 on the Richter scale each year.
