63RD ANNIVERSARY OF TRAGIC SCHOOL BUS CRASH IN SPRING CITY

Spring City is taking time to remember a tragic school bus accident that happened 63 years ago today.

On August 22, 1955, a Spring City school bus was hit by a southbound train killing 11 children and leaving 36 injured. Officials say the injury number would have been higher had it not been for older students opening the emergency doors and helping others off the bus.

The 11 that died that day include:

Mary Elizabeth Ball

Everett Edwards, Jr.

Rose Mary Gideon

James Leon Hachler

Edward Muriel Hartbarger

Wallace Sanders Hartbarger

Charlotte Ann Marshall

Sherry Diane Mincy

Jerry Mincy

Richy Phillips

Max Phillips

The Town of Spring City wishes to thank Diane Golliher for the beautiful wreath she placed at the memorial site today on Front Street.
