$750,000 SETTLEMENT PENDING IN FORMER RHEA COUNTY EXECUTIVE’S WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT
A $750,000 settlement is currently pending in a federal wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of former Rhea County Executive George Thacker against the United States government.
The suit addresses Thacker’s death in 2022 while he was in custody at a federal prison camp in South Carolina, occurring just weeks into a 33-month sentence he was serving. The proposed settlement allocates approximately $580,000 to the wrongful death claim and about $169,500 to a related survival action.
As reported by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the agreement awaits final approval or resolution, following earlier steps such as court-ordered mediation in the case.
