81-YEAR-OLD WOMAN TRIES TO DRUNK DRIVE WITH CHILD IN CAR
On Tuesday last week around 5:44 p.m., Officer Samantha Seay responded to Peavine Wine and Spirits about an intoxicated woman getting into a white Honda SUV with temporary tags. The caller stated the woman came into the shop, said that she was drunk, and was attempting to leave while having a child in the vehicle with her.
Officer Seay made contact with the suspect who is identified as Nickola Dee Stevens-Hillemann. The woman stated she had a small amount of vodka before her arrival, however, she agreed to go through field sobriety tests.
Stevens-Hillemann however was unable to fully complete the tests, stopping to talk several times. Further testing showed unequal tracking in both eyes and a lack of smooth pursuit. The woman said she had no problem getting around and walking on a day-to-day basis but that she would not be able to hold the starting position in the walk-and-turn portion of the test due to her being 81 years of age.
After failing multiple tests, Stevens-Hillemann was placed in handcuffs and transported to Cumberland Medical Center for a blood draw and then to intake where she was charged with DUI and reckless endangerment of a juvenile.
