93-YEAR-OLD LOSES $8,000 TO SCAM

Another scam has taken thousands from a victim in Cumberland County.

On March 24th, a 93-year-old woman spoke with the Sheriff’s Department stating that she received an email on her Ipad with a number she needed to contact. When she spoke to the unknown caller, they told her someone was trying to withdraw $8,000 from her bank account. They informed her that she needed to take out the $8,000 in order for them to do a reversal to save her bank account. They told her to send the money to them in bitcoin. The woman went to her bank, withdrew the money, and deposited it into bitcoin. Through her using bitcoin, she also sent her social security number.

The woman is now at a loss of $8,000. This case is being investigated.
