Had it not been for some logical thinking, a local resident might have fallen victim to a scam. The resident received a phone call from area code 603 – which is in New Hampshire – indicating trouble with the IRS and saying an officer was coming to his house.

Knowing it had to be a scam, because the IRS never contacts taxpayers by phone, the resident hung up.

And that’s what authorities urge the public to do. Just hang up. The IRS will never contact you by phone or email to say the law is coming to get you. All their correspondence is done via the U.S. mail.
