CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL SAYS “NO” TO BUSINESS’S WAIVED FEE REQUEST

The Crossville City Council held their June monthly meeting Tuesday evening. There was only three main business items on the agenda, the chief being the discussion and possible action on a potential retail development. A business with plans to demolish the old Ryan’s property and move onto the spot had requested the council waive water and sewer fees. Councilman JH Graham made a motion for discussion purposes. Councilman Scott Shanks asked the council if the name of the buyer could be released, to which Mayor James Mayberry and Graham replied “no”. Shanks said that he could not support the request and that it would be unfair to other businesses to not know who their competition was. City Manager Greg Wood commented that waived fees had only been done with one non-industrial business and that was Rural King. Councilmen Art Gernt and Rob Harrison agreed with Shanks. Graham withdrew the motion and the request was not granted. The council also agreed on allowing Tank Pro Inc. to paint the Homestead Water Tower and Depot Caboose at a cost of $466,713. As their last act of the night, the council recommended with going with the Atkins Group to maintain professional airport services at the Crossville Airport.
