BARRICADED SUBJECT IN CUMBERLAND CO. SURRENDERS WITHOUT INCIDENT

CHATTANOOGA STANDOFF ENDS NON-VIOLENTLY

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched late yesterday afternoon to 923 Russell Ridge Road for a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the suspect had barricaded himself in the residence and was armed with multiple weapons. A perimeter was set up by multiple units and the joint S.W.A.T. Team of the Crossville Police Department / Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was activated and staged at the Linary Church of Christ.

Interviews with family members uncovered that the individual inside the residence was James Reagan, age 76, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and at times becomes violent. It was also discovered that there were multiple weapons inside the residence that were loaded and positioned throughout the home. Negotiators quickly established a dialogue with Reagan and after approximately 2 hours of negotiations were able to convince him into surrendering without incident. Reagan was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland Medical Center for a mental evaluation. Charges are pending from the incident.

Multiple agencies were involved in the operation including the Crossville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management, and Cumberland County Fire Department. The Cumberland County EMS and Dr. Fox were also staged at the Linary Church of Christ in the event medical services were needed.

Sheriff Casey Cox said, “multiple agencies working together as a team saved lives and was able to get Mr. Reagan the help he needed.”
