17TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEADLY TORNADO THAT HIT CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Today (Sunday, November 10, 2019) marks the 17th anniversary of a tornado that slammed into the Lake Tansi area of Cumberland County killing four. The F3 tornado also affected the southern sections of Crossville the night of November 10, 2002, injuring 18. When it was said and done, 33 homes were destroyed and 128 were damaged. The heaviest damage was along Lantana Drive, Dunbar Road, and Pigeon Ridge Road. Five homes were damaged on U.S. Highway 127 and just south of Three Creek Road. Officials say 100-year-old oak trees were snapped like wheat straws. Some mobile homes on the Ballyhoo Campground and modular homes in Lake Tansi were destroyed.
