CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES PROPOSED INDOOR RECREATION CENTER AND WATER TAP FEES

In their work session yesterday, the Crossville City Council received an update on a proposed indoor recreation center. According to City Manager Greg Wood, one prospective location is near the intersection of Genesis Road and Iris Lane close to Eye Centers of Tennessee. The city is in the process of obtaining more details of the land before negotiating the purchase. Wood said the environmental portion involves a more in-depth determination of the location and extent of wetlands and streams in the area. Based on a recent feasibility study, the construction costs of the plan would be in the area of $32 million dollars consisting of a structure of 90,000 square feet. It will be discussed again in a future city council work session.

The council also reviewed a proposed increase in fees for water taps. The existing rate has not been changed since 2005. If approved, the cost for a ¾ inch water tap would increase to $1,100 inside the city, while the rate for a 2 inch tap would go up to $3500. The matter will be voted on at the regular city council meeting this Tuesday night, April 13, 2021.
