ASSAULT WITH BASEBALL BAT TURNS INTO HIGH SPEED CHASE WITH POLICE

An alleged assault involving a baseball bat turned into a high speed pursuit in Crossville yesterday. The arrest report states the suspect, 31-year-old Jonathan Buren Hargis, fled the scene in a vehicle on Walker Hill Street and was spotted by police minutes later on North Main Street. Hargis led law enforcement on a chase onto I-40 heading west reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour at one point. It ended near Wade Conley Road near Monterey and Hargis was arrested for aggravated assault and evading arrest. The victim was reportedly hit three times by Hargis with the bat. Hargis claimed he was attacked first.
