MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS TAKING PLACE WESTBOUND AT 328 MILE MARKER I-40 FOR BRIDGE REPAIR

TDOT is working on bridge repair on I-40 at the 328 mile marker on the westbound lanes resulting in one lane traffic at the scene. This is causing traffic backups and will continue to do so for at least two to three weeks (around mid to late June). Motorists can expect travel delays. This will be seven days a week weather permitting until the project is complete.

As of 3:30 p.m. central Friday, June 4, 2021, westbound traffic was backed up 10 miles to the Westel Exit.

Eastbound traffic is fine.

Taking the 329 Exit (Crab Orchard) and proceeding west on Highway 70 to Peavine Road to get back on I-40 can be done but is not recommended as crews are working underneath the bridge on the highway with delays there.

The best course of action is to remain patient and you will eventually make it out of the construction zone on the interstate.

There is a second option:

Motorists traveling west can get off I-40 at Exit 347 (Highway 27) in Roane County, Proceed south to Spring City then take Highway 68 towards Crossville. Once you get into Crossville on Highway 127, you will come to a traffic light where Central Baptist Church is, turn right at that light onto Miller Bypass (Highway 392) and go around town to a 4 way stop. Keep straight onto Peavine Road (Highway 101) and get back on I-40.
