U.S. District Judge William Campbell scheduled a trial to get underway September 21, 2021, for former Cumberland County Solid Waste Director Mike Harvel. It will be a jury trial and any plea agreement must be completed by August 16, 2021.

Harvel was indicted by a federal grand jury on several charges. Court documents state between 2015-2018, Harvel sexually assaulted seven women under his supervision. It also indicates Harvel reportedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted two women and forcibly raped one victim on two separate occasions.

Harvel was ordered to stay in federal custody until the trial.

If convicted, Harvel faces up to life in prison and a maximum of $1.5 million in fines.
