13-YEAR-OLD CHARGED WITH “THREATS OF MASS VIOLENCE” IN COCKE COUNTY

Cocke County, TN- A 13-year-old juvenile was charged yesterday after social media threats surfaced last Friday, threatening students of Cocke County schools.

Last Friday, Cocke County Sheriff’s Office posted this on their Facebook stating “the post regarding the schools has been investigated and this is something that was shared multiple times by several people. Our school system and department continue to monitor this situation but can assure you that your kids are safe. Law enforcement presence will continue to be a priority in the schools. It is much better if law enforcement and the school system be contacted prior to sharing false and misleading information. Social media posts have conflicted with events that were completely opposite and facts were not presented to the public. We will investigate these complaints and always try to locate the source and track them down as we did today. Do not jump to conclusions about what others post. This causes more friction and makes it much harder to keep the issues calm.”

Here is the post that was circling around on different social media platforms:

Yesterday,  CID charged a 13-year-old juvenile female with “Threats of Mass Violence”. The juvenile appeared before the juvenile court yesterday and was transported to a juvenile detention center.

This is a juvenile arrest so no other information is available.
