UPDATE ON RENEGADE MOUNTAIN FIRE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Fire officials says the wildfire is now contained after numerous acres on the mountain was involved in the fire. Officials say residents evacuated would be allowed to return once power is restored.

The fire will continue to burn for several days inside the fire line.

Cumberland County Fire and State Forestry will have people on fire watch for the next few days.

Two condos were lost in this fire however, one was an Airbnb rental and the other was a vacation home.

No primary residences were lost today and no injuries from the public or fire crews were sustained.

Update 3:50 p.m.

Fire officials says the wildfire is now 60 percent contained.

UPDATE – 2 p.m.

Crab Orchard Christian Church, located at 217 Wheeler Lane in Crab Orchard, will now be the sole shelter for residents of Renegade Mountain affected by the wildfire. The American Red Cross has been activated and is on the way to support shelter operations at the request of Cumberland County EMA.

UPDATE – 12:30 p.m. 

The wildfire jumped a fire break line and is now headed toward Godsey Knob. Officials say residents on Godsey Road are being evacuated.

ORIGINAL STORY 

A wildfire started just before 10 a.m. today on Moytoy Road on Renegade Mountain in Cumberland County near Crab Orchard.

Numerous fire departments are on the scene battling the blaze.

Authorities say two multi-family condos were ablaze. Multiple others were in danger of catching fire.

Residents of Moytoy Road and the surrounding area were evacuated.

As of 11 a.m., the fire covers 15 acres and spreading.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

As of noon today, several structures are in danger.

Crab Orchard City Hall and Crab Orchard Christian Church are temporary shelters for Renegade Mountain residents.

Crab Orchard Church of God of Prophecy, located at 756 Main Street in Crab Orchard, is serving hot meals and assisting evacuees from the mountain.

Non-residents of Renegade Mountain are asked to avoid the area as numerous emergency vehicles are responding to the scene.

Smoke from the wildfire can be seen west for at least 10 miles, including in Crossville.
