MORE DETAILS RELEASED OF ARREST OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY TEACHER

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office released additional details today of the arrest yesterday of a teacher on drug charges.

The report states at approximately 8:30 a.m., Interquest Canines, with sheriff’s deputies, came to Pine View Elementary School on Daysville Road to perform their monthly routine inspection.

K-9 Zeus focused on the middle school end of the school on request from the principal.

K-9 Zeus covered four classrooms, the middle school area bathrooms, lockers, and the middle school hallway.

Upon inspecting classroom 219, Zeus alerted the officer by sitting at the teacher’s desk inside the room. Zeus was brought out of the classroom twice and returned both times to sit at the teacher’s desk. The desk was searched, but no drugs were found.

The teacher, 32-year-old Angela Elizabeth Anderson of Cookeville, was brought into the school office, where she was informed of the indication by K-9 Zeus.

The arrest report states Anderson told officers the dog probably was detecting CBD cigarettes she smokes on her way to work. The officers asked Anderson to show the cigarettes to them.

Anderson led them to her vehicle in the parking lot. She retrieved the cigarettes and showed them to authorities.

She was asked if she had anything else in the vehicle she should not have on school property. She replied she did not.

K-9 Zeus was brought to the vehicle and indicated the presence of drugs.

Anderson was asked again if anything was in the car that should not be on school property.

She reportedly told officers there was marijuana in the vehicle.

A search of the car allegedly revealed a pink bag in the glove compartment. It contained ten small plastic bags containing marijuana, three small bags containing cocaine, and three other bags containing a brown hard powder. Officers also seized two cut straws and two pipes containing smoked residue.

Anderson was arrested for simple possession of a Schedule VI drug (marijuana), manufacture, sale, and delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance (cocaine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Anderson was processed into the Cumberland County jail and placed under a $7,000 bond. She will make her first appearance on the charges in Cumberland County General Sessions Court on January 8, 2024.

She is currently suspended from the Cumberland County School System without pay.
