PLAQUE DEDICATION CEREMONY DATE TO HONOR STEVE NORRIS DISCUSSED BY COMMITTEE

In a brief meeting yesterday, the Cumberland County Building and Grounds committee discussed setting a date for a dedication ceremony for the late weatherman Steve Norris.

The bronze raised letter plaque is currently being made and will have a picture of Norris with the words “Steve Norris – In loving memory of a local radio icon and beloved weatherman 1959 – 2022”.

It would be placed on the old Tennessee Highway Patrol building at the corner of Second Avenue and Main Street next to the old courthouse. Norris used the building for an office to send out weather forecasts.

The committee yesterday recommended a spring 2024 date for the ceremony.

Officials will announce an exact date and time for the dedication ceremony after the plaque is finished and delivered.

Steve began on-air weather forecasting at age 17 for local radio station WAEW-AM/FM.

Steve has provided live weather updates on several radio stations for decades as a certified meteorologist, including his most recent position since 2003 as staff meteorologist for 3B Media stations 105.7 The Hog, 93.3 The Ranch, Spirit 101.9, and 94.1 The Vibe.

Steve passed away at Cumberland Medical Center on September 22, 2022, after suffering complications from pneumonia.
