Clara Jane Chadwick, age 88, of Dayton, Tennessee, passed away at Soddy-Daisy Healthcare Center on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born in Pierre, South Dakota, on March 22, 1935, the daughter of the late John Ross Mason and Emily (Jacobs) Mason.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years: Gene Harlow Chadwick.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter: Susan Fox Humphrey; brother: Ross Jacobs Mason; and her half-siblings: Johanna Ross Smith, David Benjamin Mason, Marion Spaid, Hazel Spaid, Jessie Nelson, Margaret Myers, Donald John Mason, and Chester Fleishhacker.

Clara lived in Pierre, South Dakota, and Battle Creek, Michigan, before moving to Dayton in 1977. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Dayton.

Clara is survived by her daughters: Caryl (Robert) Shanks of Richmond, Virginia, Barbara (John) Henderson of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Jean (Lewis) Burgess of Salisbury, North Carolina; sons: William Fox of Salisbury, North Carolina, Rodney Chadwick of Richmond, Virginia, and Mark (Melissa) Chadwick of Keysville, Virginia; her nephew: Mitch Mason; and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tennessee on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at noon Eastern with Rev. Layne Pennington officiating. Visitation will be on the day of the service from 11 a.m. until noon Eastern. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Faith Gardens at Buttram Cemetery after the service with her grandchildren as pallbearers.

The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton.
