According to South Roane County Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Curtis, the call came in around 7:00 to the 140 block of Hillview Road in the Ten Mile community which is the extreme southern side of the county.
Upon arrival, power lines were down and the mobile home was fully involved. Volunteer Electric Cooperative was called to the scene and cut the power then the fire department began an attack with at least 16 firefighters and several apparatuses on the scene, but unfortunately according to the chief, were unable to save the home which was occupied by five individuals, two children and three adults which all got out safely. He also stated they had just moved into the area from Pennsylvania to take care of an elderly family member but smoke detectors were operating efficiently.
