Last night on 9-20-23 Rhea County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Tracking Unit was requested to assist Tennessee Highway Patrol CID and Grundy County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a search in the vicinity of the rest area on I-24 on top of Monteagle Mountain. Law Enforcement believed there was a individual possibly in the wooded area around the rest area that was a fugitive out of Mississippi for sexual battery. Rhea County K9s Ava and Luca were able to quickly locate a deceased party in a wooded area close to the rest stop. Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol CID will be further investigating the incident.
