PROPOSED ROANE COUNTY MEGA HIGH SCHOOL NOW HAS TENTATIVE COMPLETION DATE

The Roane County Board of Education recently approved a timeline for a plan to build a mega high school. The plan calls to consolidate Harriman High School, Roane County High School and Rockwood High School into one large school to be located close to Roane State Community College in Roane County. Under the plan, Oliver Springs High School and Midway High School will remain in tact and operational. Richard Foster with Lewis Group Architects said construction is estimated to take 18 to 20 months, and the goal is to have the new school open by the start of the school year in August 2020. The plan still must go through and have the approval of the Roane County Commission before being put into action. The plan has also drawn numerous concerns and complaints from Roane County residents including topics of school safety, zoning, transportation, consolidating the three school sports programs into one and other issues.
