DIABETIC MAN STOPS TAKING INSULIN; BECOMES PHYSICALLY AGGRESSIVE

On Sunday around 9:24 p.m., Officer Amy Sherill with the Crossville Police Department was dispatched to the Mountain Village Lane area about a physical domestic assault. Dispatch described the aggressor in the altercation as a type 1 diabetic possibly behaving out of character due to high blood sugar.
Upon arriving, Officer Sherill spoke with the victim outside the apartment who advised that her husband had been released from the hospital on Saturday and had been aggressive toward her ever since he came home and had stopped taking his prescribed insulin.
She said that her husband accused her of having him locked up in jail even though he had actually been at the hospital. He had apparently been verbally abusive to her and that night he had grabbed her by her arms and pushed her into her counter. She said she didn’t have any injuries from the altercation and also that her husband had been this way for the last couple of years as he’s not been managing his diabetes as he should.
After entering the apartment with City Fire paramedics, the aggressor was lying on a couch and appeared sluggish and unwell. His blood sugar was taken and read 564, and was assisted to an ambulance by EMS upon their arrival. He was not verbally or physically combative with medical personnel and agreed to be transported to Cumberland Medical Center for treatment.
No charges have been filed.
