ROCKWOOD PD MAKES DRUG ARREST AFTER GATEWAY CHASE

The Rockwood Police Dept. is reporting their Officers made an arrest following a traffic stop last Friday evening January 3, at approximately 8:30 pm. Officer Chance York’s report states he was patrolling South Kingston Avenue, and as he drove past 314 South Kingston Avenue, a residence in which numerous drug arrests had been made, he saw a gold 2004 Chevrolet S10 leaving the residence.
He attempted to get behind the vehicle but was unsuccessful. He stated he found the vehicle approximately 3 minutes later at Big E’s Quick Mart. The vehicle left the Quick Mart and headed north on North Gateway Avenue, so the officer got behind the vehicle. They traveled northbound in the right-hand lane and the vehicle turned on its left turn signal and merged into the left-hand. Once in the left lane, it then signaled to come back into the right-hand lane. The vehicle traveled approximately half a mile with its right turn signal on.
Officer York turned on emergency lights to attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to pull over, so he turned on the siren, the vehicle continued to travel northbound so K-9 Officer Charles Haubrich got in front of the vehicle while Patrolwoman Martin pulled up alongside the vehicle in an attempt to box the vehicle in doing a rolling roadblock.
The driver was identified as Ron Patrick Harris, he sped off from Big E’s Market heading northbound on Gateway just past Tyler Pointe, which is the Walmart entrance, and turned into a driveway at 1399 North Gateway. He then went into a wooded area where the car struck a tree. He began to flee the scene.
Officer Martin arrived, but Harris would not comply by officers command to get down on the ground. He eventually was taken to the ground also tased a couple of times he then requested an ambulance to be sent to the scene to transport him to the hospital to be checked out. He later would be released and taken to the jail according to the report.
He was charged with Manufacturing and Delivering Methamphetamine, Driving While in Possession of Methamphetamine, Manufacturing/Delivering/Selling/Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Evading Arrest, Assault against Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Stop, Frisk, Halt, Arrest or Search, Reckless Driving, Signals for Turns, and Failure to maintain the lane of travel.
The narcotics will be sent to TBI labs for analysts.
