Crossville, TN – The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), is providing an update regarding the skeletal remains discovered near Westel Road and the Mount Roosevelt Wildlife Management Area on February 8, 2025.

Following a thorough analysis of the remains, DNA testing has confirmed with 99.99% certainty that they belong to Cody Dearing, who was reported missing in 2022. This identification brings to light the tragic conclusion of a search that has weighed heavily on the hearts of the Dearing family and the community.

Sheriff Cox stated, “We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Dearing’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this painful news. We remain committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding his death, and we will continue our investigation diligently.”
