RESTORATION WORK ON HARRIMAN’S TEMPERANCE BUILDING PAUSED

The Harriman Temperance Building restoration has paused, and during Tuesday’s city council meeting, committee member Jess Rittenhouse discussed next steps. Previous work included new windows and foundation repairs, but Rittenhouse says more extensive work is needed, estimating costs in the millions.

The city received a $300,000 grant for initial work, but additional funding is required to make the building publicly accessible again. Mayor Wayne Best noted that grant funding can slow progress, and the city may need to provide funds to move forward.

The council agreed, and a workshop with the restoration committee is scheduled for next month’s meeting.
