On April 24, 2025, Crossville Police responded to a report at the Police Department lobby. The complainant received a past-due account letter on April 23, 2025, and a bill the next day for $3,599.97. She uses a pay-by-minute Verizon phone, not a phone plan.

Verizon informed her it was a scam and advised filing a police report. No money was sent to the scammer.
