ROANE COUNTY EMS PRESENTED WITH STAR OF LIFE AWARD
From the Roane County (TN) Office of Emergency Services & Homeland Security:
On April 30th the TN Children’s Emergency Care Alliance presented Roane County EMS with the distinguished Star of Life award for Outstanding Achievements in Maternal and Neonate Response. This award honors exceptional EMS personnel from across the state who provide exemplary life saving care during life’s scariest and at times, most tragic moments.
On a cold early morning in March, Roane Co e911 received a call for a new born infant who was suffering severe respiratory distress and a mother who was experiencing postpartum hemorrhaging. Dispatchers quickly dispatched RCEMS M4 and RCEMS M3, along with multiple Roane Co Sherrifs deputies to scene. When crews arrived they were met with the unimaginable, a newborn child in respiratory arrest and a distraught mother, working tirelessly to save her child, while experiencing her very own medical emergency. Roane Co 1st responders worked seamlessly and efficiently to stabilize both patients. Once stabilized, Roane Co Sherrifs department escorted RCEMS M4 to Fort Loudon Medical Center with the intubated new born infant. Mom and baby were later reunited in the UTMC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where baby Nora made a full recovery with Mom and Dad by her side.
